Courier Carnage

Be honest, try and name a really cool cycling movie; American Flyers (mostly starring Kevin Costner’s moustache)? BMX Bandits (co-staring Nicole Kidman’s perm)? Not as easy as you might think, but judging by both the hype and trailer it looks like David Koepp’s new offering ‘Premium Rush’ may finally have cracked it. Best known as a screenwriter whose work includes ‘Panic Room’, ‘Mission: Impossible’ and ‘Spider-Man’, Koepp’s newest directorial effort stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (‘Inception’) as a Manhattan cycle courier whose mystery pick-up packet might well get him killed. Although the film obviously employed a veritable army of stuntmen, Gordon-Levitt did much of his own cycling stunt work; apparently this didn’t always go quite as planned – amongst his many scrapes he managed to plough into the back of a New York cab, smashing the rear windscreen and requiring 13 stitches. You have to wait until September 14 when the film opens to see if the action lives up to the levels we’re likely to witness during the TdF and Olympics, but in the mean time Cyclo highly recommends you check out the trailer…
