Mixed Bag at Paralympic Men’s TT

With action moving to Brands Hatch for the Paralympics Road Racing and with 32 medals up for grabs in the coming days, things did not get off to a spectacular start for GB with Jon-Allan Butterworth finishing 13th of 14 athletes in the C5 Time Trial. Butterworth, the winner of three silvers from his three velodrome disciplines last week, hit a time of 36:56.39, 4:43.31 off winner Yegor Dementyev of Ukraine. China’s Xinyang Liu took silver and Australia’s Michael Gallagher the bronze.

Shaun McKeown did better, though far from podium best, in the C3 Time Trial placing sixth in a time of 24:44.37, with gold, silver and bronze going to David Nicholas (Australia), Joseph Berenyl (USA) and Masaki Fujita of Japan respectively. Mark Colbourne finally broke the run of poor luck with a spectacular silver in the C1 TT with a time of 25:29.37, losing to Germany’s Michael Teuber (25:16.43) but holding off China’s Zhang Yu Li in bronze.
