Work on Derby Velodrome Begins

Derby VelodromJust a week after the brand new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow held its inaugural event, work has begun on Britain’s fifth 250meter indoor track in Derby.  Now under construction on the site of a former landfill area near Pride Park Stadium, the £28m facility – which includes a £3m injection from Sport England – is also set to feature 12 sports courts, gym facilities and a 1.5km outdoor road circuit.

Building is being undertaken by Bowmer & Kirkland, one of the UK’s most successful privately owned construction companies with almost 90year’s of experience and with recent projects including the FA facility at St George’s Park and the innovative ‘Pods’ at the North Lincolnshire Sports Academy. Work starts today (November 26) and is expected to be complete by the end of 2014.
