Hannah Waldram, a community coordinator on the news team at guardian.co.uk, is promoting the idea of a global map of so-called ‘Ghost Bike’ sites. The phenomenon, which is thought to have originated in San Francisco, involves the installation of (usually) white painted bikes, often adorned with flowers and other tributes placed at the sites of cycling fatalities. The idea has captured the public imagination and an increasing number have been spotted across the UK – most frequently in the capital, which was the location of the most recent (placed in tribute to 24-year-old student Min Joo Lee, killed last month) which prompted Waldram’s map idea.
Anyone with a picture to submit can add them to the Ghost Bike Flickr group (adding the tag ‘gdnghostbike’) or, if you’re not on Flickr, images can be emailed to hannah.waldram@guardian.co.uk
