The National Cyclo-Cross Championship took place last weekend (January 7-8) at Chantry Park, Ipswich, proving a blazing success, not least for Ian Field who took the 2012 when he crossed the line just three seconds ahead of rival Liam Killeen. Helen Wyman of Kona UK took her seventh National Cyclo-Cross Championship victory beating out Nikki Harris of Telenet Fidea, despite her fitness (even her participation) being in doubt following a recent bout of illness – Annie Last took the third place spot.
Steve James (of Hargroves Cycles) took first place in the U-23s, with Kenta Gallagher (Scott) in second and Boardman Elite’s Grant Ferguson third. Hugo Robinson (XRT-Elmy Cycles) was crowned Junior’s winner, with Alex Welburn (Cycleshack-Forme Coaching) and Joe Moses (Paul Milnes-Bradford Olympic) in second and third.
Veteran wins went to: Jim Bryan (Over-40s, Zepnat RT), Chris Young (Over-45s, Wheelbase), Mick Bell (Over-50s, London Fire Brigade CC), Barry Kipling (Over-55s, MTS Cyclesport), Dave McMullen (Over-60s, GWR Team) and Vic Barnett (Over-65s, Welland Valley CC). Whilst the Youth standings were: Dan Tullett (Under-14 Boys, Hargroves Cycles), Charlotte Broughton (Under-14 Girls, Leicestershire RC), Jack Ravenscroft (Under-16 Boys, Solihull CC), and Abby-Mae Parkinson (Under-16 Girls, RST Racing Team).
