Finishing safely on the final 124.5km Morzine to Châtel stage, Bradley Wiggins has secured back-to-back wins at the Criterium du Dauphine, with an overall time of 26h 40′ 46″; his Sky team mate Michael Rogers took second place with + 01′ 17″ and BMC Racing’s reigning TdF champion Cadel Evans took third with + 01′ 26″. Both Wiggins and Rogers were present on the steep final ramp up to Chatel, along with fellow Team Sky rider Chris Froome, who backed up the impressive Sky 1-2 with a blistering fourth place. The Criterium du Dauphine, one of the toughest tours on the calendar, has proven an absolute triumph for Wiggins having maintained the yellow since the second day of racing.
A clearly delighted Wiggins commented post-event: ‘I think it’s always harder to do it a second time. Last year I didn’t come into the race as the favourite so to do that this year and know from day one, from being second in the prologue, that I was one of the favourites, it’s a better and harder way to win. Obviously we’ve had a few goes at it now so I think we’re getting better at it if anything. It’s probably gone better than the other races have gone this season, it’s been a lot smoother… It’s certainly getting easier each time, not in terms of the effort but in terms of staying cool at the right moments and knowing what to do and when to do it.’
