Winchester 100 – September 21, 2014

Winchester 100The Winchester 100 charity cycling sportive closes the RIDE100 series for 2014 and offers a fantastic opportunity to experience a ride in the beautiful New Forest. Passing through three counties riders can expect some challenging terrain regardless which of the three lengths – ‘Cool’ 46 miles, ‘Classic’ 63 miles or ‘Champion’ 104 miles – are opted for.

 

Using Sparsholt College, Winchester (map here) as HQ, all three rides offer chip timing, mech support, full signage, feed stations and a medal. Entry fee is £35 for riders prepared to commit to raising an additional minimum £35 for Action Medical Research – a fantastic charity supporting sick and disabled children – or £55 for those not wishing to commit (boo!)

Manchester 100 Mile – August 31, 2014

Manchester 100 MileA truly classic ‘Century’ ride – the Manchester 100 Mile route follows beautiful lanes through a wide sweep of Cheshire and helps to raise funds for the Christie charity for good measure.

 

Starting and finishing at Wythenshawe Park, Manchester (map here), the route heads first to Northwich, taking in Delamere Forest and Nantwich (the half way point) for lunch before heading back through Middlewich to the Finish.

 

Early starts are the order of the day with away times from 6.45 to 08.15am to allow for a more leisurely approach to tackling the all important 100 milestone – although full support from mechs, support vehicles and marshals should help too. As will the Bike Events excellent guide to race preparation, which is available here.

 

If you still want to bag a ‘Century’ but think 100miles might prove a little chewy, there is also a 100km option with the same start and finish. New Forest Rattler – August 17, 2014

New Forest RattlerFast becoming one of the main sportive fixtures on the calendar the New Forest Rattler seems to go from strength to strength taking riders on a magnificent loop of the New Forest and offering a fantastic day on the bike in a truly stunning part of the UK.

 

With three different route options; 47, 82 and 102miles the New Forest Rattler is based out of Moyles Court School (map here) in the heart of the New Forest and, as accommodation in the height of summer can be hard to come by, organisers are now offering camping packages too at £20 per pitch. Registration on the day opens at 7.30am with riders away from 8.30am to enjoy relatively quiet roads and some surprisingly hilly terrain, including the short sharp shock of Blissford Hill (25% gradient.)

 

£25 gains entry to the two shorter distances and £27 to the 102miler – all including pre-race porridge, tea/coffee, electronic timing, SAG wagon, post-event hotdog or burger to refuel.

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100Celebrating the legacy for cycling created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists, it is a truly spectacular event for all involved, plus a great opportunity to raise funds for the amazing Asthma UK.

Action Medical Research London to Paris – July 23-27, 2014

Action Medical Research London to ParisFour incredible options in aid of the fantastic Action Medical Research that offers something for everyone when it comes to tackling the famous London to Paris ride. The ‘Cool’ option spreads the ride London-Calais-Abbeville-Beauvais-Paris and is aimed at those new to such cycle challenges with four days of cycling (80miles, 71miles, 62miles and 48miles), whilst the ‘Classic’ (London-Calais-Arras-Compiègne-Paris) ups the daily mileage to 85, 75, 75 and 61miles and the ‘Champion’ (Chessington-St Malo-Mayenne-Chartres-Paris) takes things further with 76, 81, 114 and 52mile stages. If none of that sounds tough enough (!) there is also a 24hour option to tackle a massive 240miles of road.

 

Registration for the multiday options is £70, with a commitment to raising £1,500 for Action Medical Research – supporting sick and disabled children – which includes a massive amount of support (plus food and accommodation), whilst the 24hour challenge costs the same for registration but with a lower, £1,200, fundraising commitment. Whichever one you decide to test your legs on there is an opportunity to see the closing stage of the 2014 Tour de France on the famous Champs-Élysées…

 

Note also that Action Medical Research is running another London to Paris event September 10-14 – although this one naturally doesn’t include seeing the TdF…

London to Southend – July 20, 2014

London to SouthendStarting in Victoria Park, East London (map here), the 52mile route heads quickly out of town and after stops along the way for lunch and tea, reaches the finish in the pretty gardens of Priory Park, Southend where riders can relax and enjoy refreshments, music and sports massage before making your way home via Southend Victoria railway station, which is close by.

 

Entry fee for the London to Southend is £20.50, reduced to £19.50 for team entry (six or more riders) and the start times are run staggered between 7am and 9.10am to avoid early congestion. RideIt Watlington Off-Road – July 12, 2014

RideIt Watlington Off-RoadThe Chilterns are the playground for this Evans Cycles RideIt off-road event that promises a dramatic ride with beautiful tree-lined trails and some single-track to keep you on your toes. Throw in some flinty descents, quick tough climbs, and fast ridge top trails, and this should prove one incredible day of riding.

 

Icknield Community College, Watlington, is race HQ (map here) with three routes on offer of 15, 25 and 35miles all costing just £17.50 and including electronic timing, mechs and broom wagons, feed stations and a free High5 Race Pack if you sign up four weeks ahead of the ride. Registration on the day opens from 8am with the short and medium routes setting off between 8.30 and 10.30am and the longer route from 8.30 until 9.45am.

Divas on Wheels – July 6, 2014

Divas on WheelsPicturesque countryside, great fun and a supportive atmosphere are just some of the things to expect for the Divas On Wheels women-only cycle ride in aid of the amazing Pilgrims Hospices. Setting out from Biketart cycle shop in Barham near Canterbury (map here), riders can choose to tackle either a 25 or 50 mile route through the beautiful Kent countryside with dozens of experienced riders taking part as our special ‘Bike Heroes’ for the day leading small groups or offering roadside repairs and assistance to anybody who needs it.
