According to Matt Dixon, a top-flight coach with US fitness group Purple Patch, business deals now get done from the saddle, not on the golf course. British-born Dixon, an exercise physiologist and former pro triathlete, is in a good position to asses such things as his clients include many of Silicon Valley’s top executives, including Max Levchin, co-founder of PayPal and the recently knighted venture capitalist Michael Moritz, chairman of Sequoia Capital. Speaking to American cycling website BikeBiz, Dixon commented: ‘A lot of tech deals used to be done on the golf courses of Pebble Beach in California. They’re now done on the Old La Honda road, a road bike climb above the tech town of Cupertino, home of Apple.’
